You will qualify for an exemption from the English language requirement if one of the following applies to you:
1. You are a national of a majority English-speaking country:

2. You have completed/are completing a degree in a majority English-speaking country (Chinese joint venture programmes are not included). Your degree shall be conferred no earlier than September 2017.
3. You have completed/are completing a degree which has been taught and assessed in English (Chinese joint venture programmes are not included), and your degree shall be conferred no earlier than September 2017 with an English proficiency letter issued by the institution. The English proficiency letter should:
-be typed and printed on institutional letterhead.
-bear the seal/signature of the issuing authority
-indicate your degree has been taught and assessed entirely in English
4. You have completed a degree from one of the universities listed below:
Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University; University of Nottingham Ningbo China; New York University Shanghai; Wenzhou-Kean University; Duke Kunshan University; The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen; Beijing Normal University-HongKong Baptist University United International College (aka UIC); Guangdong Technion-Israel Institute of Technology.
In exceptional circumstances, individual cases will be considered on their own merits. You may be required to attend interviews or tests to further demonstrate your English proficiency.
If you miss the English language requirements by 0.5-1.0 of an IELTS band, or a similar number for other English language exams, you can be admitted to the programme after successful completion of our four- or six-week intensive English presessional course.
You can also apply to take the XJTLU English language test in lieu of an IELTS/TOEFL or equivalent. Based on the score, students may be admitted or may be required to take and successfully complete the four- or six-week intensive English presessional course.
Additionally, students may be required to complete English language courses on a pass/ fail basis as part of the additional learning activity requirement during their studies at XJTLU.

Program Description
OVERVIEW
With the rise of China as a global economic power there is an increasing demand among organisations and companies from around the world, working with and in China, for professionals with knowledge of China’s political, economic and social systems and who can also speak Chinese.
The MA China Studies provides those in the programme with in-depth knowledge of China’s history, politics, society and economy, in order to equip them with a more comprehensive understanding of China’s complex socio-economic system. This knowledge will provide graduates of the programme with unique and important insights, as well as language training critical to operating and decision-making in the Chinese context.
WHY SHOULD I STUDY CHINA STUDIES AT XJTLU?
The Department of China Studies at XJTLU has a large and diverse group of experts from around the world who will introduce students to different perspectives on China from different disciplinary backgrounds, including politics, history, political economy, literature and sociology, amongst others.
Our research ties with key universities in China’s Jiangnan region (including in Shanghai, Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces) provide further opportunities for students to enrich their learning experience by spending a period of study at one of those universities.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Students will acquire a comprehensive knowledge of China’s history, culture, society, politics, and economy, as well as of China’s regional, technological and social policy development. Students will also learn or improve their Chinese language skills.

The completion of additional learning activities is required to complete your masters degree. Normally, required ALA hours will be distributed evenly across each semester, amounting to 200 hours per semester.Possible activities include:
Chinese language classes (up to 450 hours in total)
Study period in China studies at another Chinese university
Internships with industryCAREERS
Companies, non-profit organisations, and government agencies working in diverse fields (technology, health, media, culture and society) dealing with China or operating in China are demanding graduates with a comprehensive understanding of China’s past and present society, economy and politics. Particularly for international students, this China expertise and ability to speak Chinese will enhance their career prospects in whichever field they operate in.

Masters students have the option to pay tuition fees in instalments each semester. You can also choose to pay the fees upfront at the time of registration, in this case a discount of five percent of the total fees will be offered.You will be asked to indicate how you would like to pay the fees when you confirm your acceptance of the unconditional offer.

Applicants must submit a written study plan or research proposal in English or Chinese, with a minimum of 800 words for Master degree.
*9. Completed Original Physical Examination Record for Foreigners and Blood Test Report
The physical examination must cover ALL the items listed in form. The forms with incomplete records or without the suggestion and signature of the attending physician, official cross-edge stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicant are invalid.
